The Government will release its 2021 Budget on 20 May. What would a Budget look like that truly backed people working in public and community services to do their job and build a better Aotearoa where everyone can thrive?
We’ve had years of hearing from some commentators and politicians about how government should be smaller and spend less. And we’ve had years of snowballing underinvestment in basic services. What and how the government invests in this Budget will give us an indication of how ambitious it is to improve public services.
Join our MC Andrea Fromm for a lively lunch-time discussion with our excellent panel:
Bernard Hickey , economist – on what a Budget that delivers on housing would look like
Claire Achmad , Social Services Providers Aotearoa – on children, whānau and NGO social services
Max Rashbrooke , writer and academic - on income support, taxation and government spending
Craig Renney , CTU economist and former advisor to Grant Robertson - on Covid and the level of government spending
