Too Much Money - How Wealth Disparities are Unbalancing Aotearoa New Zealand
I would like to invite you to hear Max Rashbrooke discuss his latest book at 5:30pm on Wednesday December 8th at 2/57 Willis Street, Wellington. NB Vaccine Pass registration required by 2/57 Venue.
Today, someone in the wealthiest 1 per cent of adults – a club of some 40,000 people – has a net worth 68 times that of the average New Zealander.
Too Much Money is the story of how wealth inequality is changing Aotearoa New Zealand. Possessing wealth opens up opportunities to live in certain areas, get certain kinds of education, make certain kinds of social connections, exert certain kinds of power. And when access to these opportunities becomes alarmingly uneven, the implications are profound.
Max Rashbrooke's analysis arrives at a time of heightened concern for the division of wealth and what this means for our country's future. Jo Spratt from Tax Justice Aotearoa and Oxfam will provide comments in response to Max's presentation.
Max Rashbrooke is a Senior Associate at the Institute for Governance and Policy Studies at Victoria University with interests in inequality and open government. He has published widely on inequality and has also worked extensively as a journalist. Dr Jo Spratt is Communication and Advocacy Director at Oxfam New Zealand and is a committee member of Tax Justice Aotearoa New Zealand.
All welcome. If you would like to attend in person, please register here. Registration is required as the venue also requires evidence of a valid vaccine pass due to Covid regulations.
In order to facilitate the process of establishing such evidence, it would be appreciated if you would reply to this email with a copy of your vaccine pass so we can check them off before the meeting. Otherwise they will be checked at the door.
The event will be livestreamed on YouTube and the link for that is here. It will also be recorded and posted to YouTube, where you can search for it on 'NZ Fabian Society.'
